Ropes are used for a wide variety of applications in shipping, and especially in mooring ships, but depending on the material from which they were made, they always has disadvantages of one kind or another (short life and low BL for natural fibre ropes, low elongation, poor dynamic properties and danger of rust for steel ropes).
This meant that type of rope had to be disegned which not only allowed the ships to be held still and securely but also with dynamic properties. The result was the Atlas Syntetic wire rope.
